When I moved to work freelance I chose to call my company 'Yellow Goose Leadership Development', because:
I admire the concept of 'Geese Leadership'. Interestingly Geese can fly 70 times farther together, than alone, reminding us we are stronger together.
Geese create uplift for each other in the V formation, all travelling purposefully, facing forward, making life easier for each other, moving collectively and efficiently towards the same end result, whilst making honking sounds to encourage success. Fascinatingly you never see 'a goose in flight' looking backwards, they are focused on moving forward towards their goal.
Yellow appealed to me as it is a bright colour and represents sunshine. Everyone feels better when the sun is shining. Understanding how to find and reward the 'sunshine' moments at work, whilst facing and sorting out the challenges, means everyone has a little bit of sunshine to lighten their day, key to well-being.
As an experienced senior leader I know management and leadership development is crucial, it has the potential to change lives and outcomes. We spend 80,000 hours at work in our lifetime. The manager and leader therefore has the power to positively colour 80,000 hours of their own and their teams lives, whilst consistently driving the organisation forward. Engaged staff are more creative, altruistic, productive, supportive of others and loyal.
Leadership theories, models, and techniques are 'tools'. Exploring them is a great ways to learn from others. There is no one theory, tool or technique that makes a manager great. It's more about mindset and crafting, how we uniquely and collectively apply the tools we have in our 'tool kit' to each situation we face. Choosing the right theory, model or technique at the right moment and applying it skilfully is the basis for success, coaching and training can help you do this.
Coaching and training middle managers and leaders particularly offers an opportunity for real change. If you want to shift anything, it's easier to do it from the middle. Middle managers and leaders are the 'pivot point' of success in any organisation. Coaching and training can create momentum and transition. Executive coaching is not just for senior managers & CEO's. Empowering middle managers can make a great organisation greater or turn an organisation around.
